Part 1: The Break Up

Today seemed like every other weekend. Slept until 11, ate a nice lunch..but then things turned for the worst. My boyfriend of 2 years, Briceton, called me and said he was cheating with Tierra my bestfriend, in real life. He said they had been seeing each other for the past 4 months. I slammed the phone down and crawled back into bed. I was feeling really numb and let down, betrayed by the two people I loved the most.

As soon as I got my second wind, I picked up my cell phone and dialed the number I had dialed at least a thousand times before. Tierra and I had been bestfriends since the 5th grade..how could she do this too me? Tierra picked up the phone, “*yawn*Hello?”she said in her morning voice. “Tierra, its Kyla. We need to talk. Meet me at the park in 15minutes.”, I told her. “You know I have church this morning Kyla. Come on, I have been going forever. Geez”, she started to say, “Tierra this is not the time, we both know you haven’t been to church in about 4 months.”, I said. Tierra clicked the phone down.

I began to dress, combing my brown, waist-length hair into a bun, atop my head. I pulled on the clothing nearest to me, my red jogging pants that read “FLIRT”, and a white henley ribbed t-shirt. I slipped on my Phat Farm white and red sneakers and exited my bedroom. My father was napping on the backporch and my brothers were off at their weekly football game, so I knew I wouldn’t be missed. Still, I left a note that read “Meeting T at the Park. Be back soon. Love, Kyky”. I left the note on the kitchen counter, grabbed an English muffin, and left the house. “I should of brought a jacket”, I said halfway down the street. It was an extremely windy day, one of few we got in Miami. Being so close to the ocean it was always a bit colder than in the city. I hurried down the two blocks to my favorite place in the world, aside from my childhood home in Georgia.

I saw Tierra sitting at our spot, the merry-go-round underneath one of many orange trees protecting us from the sun. Tierra spotted me and waved happily. I stared at her, she put her hand down knowing instantly something was wrong. I ran over to her and stood firmly between her and our tree. “Tierra, “I said, “Wha-..why did you do it?” My eyes suddenly brimming with tears, “Why did you do this?”I was now shouting so loud a few passerbys were gaping at us. “How could you hurt me like this?”I asked her. She stared at me in awe, “What the heck are you talking about K?” she replied. “Don’t give me that bs Tierra. BRICETON TOLD ME EVERYTHING! Did you really think I wouldn’t find out? I cannot believe this, I, we..you and Briceton? Tierra Leann Wallace, you and I are done for life!”I shouted at her.

I suddenly felt the urge to be violent. I took a step towards her, raised my hand slightly, and brought it slowly to her cheek. Hitting her would not cure my anger, hurt, and sorrow. She looked at me, and touched her cheek. “K, I can explain I-”she stumbled. I interrupted, “Tierra, your fumbling your words. We both know when that happens you are lying. Do not speak to me, do not look at me, do not call me, DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT ME! As far as I am concerned, the minute you and Briceton took it too far, we have no history.”, I took one last glare at her and turned away, beginning my walk home.
